Cameo, a new video streaming service, is letting fans get closer to their favorite celebrities than ever before,Cosmopolitanreported.

The app asks fans to pay anywhere from $1 to $1,000 for personalized, minute-long videos from their favorite celebrities, from actress Bella Thorne toReal Housewives of New Yorkstar Dorinda Medley. Celebrities can set their own prices and make videos from anywhere, allowing them to make some spare cash in their downtime.
Once a fan's video request is accepted, the selected celebrity has one week to make and send the video, which can be downloaded, replayed, and reposted anywhere. The videos are typically made on the celeb's own phone using the front-facing camera, so while production value is low, fans don't seem to mind at all.

The idea for the app came when co-founder Martin Blencowe, a former NFL agent, asked then-Seattle Seahawks player Cassius Marsh to record a quick video congratulating a friend on the birth of his son.

"Everyone kept asking the same question: How did you get that?" said CEO Steven Galanis.

The Chicago-based company began with just three celebrities on its roster and has now expanded to more than 3,000. There have been 56,000 Cameo videos made so far, with the average video totaling 25 seconds and 90% of requests being fulfilled.

The majority of Cameos are booked as gifts, according to Galanis, with the majority consisting of birthday greetings. Other popular events include graduations, Valentine's Day, and Christmas, with celebrities being asked to lend their skills to podcast endorsements, gender reveals, coming out announcements, and even roasts of friends
