Emanuelle Seigner, the actress married to director Roman Polanski, rejected her invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences,Deadlinereported.

The rejection came in a scathing open letter written to the Academy and published in French newspaperLe Journal du Dimanche.
"The Academy probably thinks I am enough of a spineless, social climbing actress that I would forget that I have been married for the past 29 years to one of the world's greatest directors."

Seigner went on to say that Polanski has been "cast out like a pariah" and called the invitation an "insufferable hypocrisy."

Polanski fled from the U.S. after he was tried for drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl in 1978. He pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor as part of a plea deal but fled to Paris, where he does not face extradition, when he learned the judge was going to disregard the bargain.

The director was removed from the Academy, along with Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby, in May. Cosby and Weinstein have also been accused of sexual misconduct.

In her letter, Seigner says that she is a feminist and is standing up for her husband in part because he was written "unforgettable female characters" and also because she views his removal from the Academy as a move meant to placate the public.

"You offend me whilst claiming to protect women!" Seigner wrote.

Seigner also lamented the negative press surrounding her husband and her inability to contain the supposed lies about him that have been published.
