Fan Bingbing, China's highest-paid actress, has reportedly been banned from acting for three years due to tax evasion allegations.

Fan Bingbing, China's highest-paid actress, has reportedly been banned from acting for three years due to tax evasion allegations, according to Hong Kong news outlet The Apple Daily.

Fan, who plays Blink inX-Men: Days of Future Past, has not posted on social media or appeared in public since early July. Her fans and supporters have speculated that the physical and digital absence is due to her involvement in a tax scandal.
Fan is one of several actors who have been scrutinized for tax evasion since May, when a Chinese TV anchor published documents that appear to show Fan receiving payment through two different contracts for the same film. This implied that she would declare only one of the contracts to tax authorities, allowing her to avoid taxes on the second contract.

Fan has denied the allegations, but Chinese officials announced shortly after the documents were published that they would launch an investigation into the double contracts.

According to other reports, Fan's name has been removed from promotional materials forUnbreakable Spirit, a Chinese war film also starring Bruce Willis and Adrien Brody. The movie will be released in October instead of August, as scheduled.

It is not clear whether the supposed acting ban applies to Chinese-made films only, or to all acting abroad as well.

China has placed similar bans on artists in the past, including actor and director Jiang Wen and director Zhang Yimou. The bans are rarely publicly confirmed unless court cases are involved
