Idris Elba denies James Bond rumors

The British actor tweeted "Don't believe the HYPE" after the rumors reached a crescendo over the weekend.

Idris Elba tried to shut down rumors that he was next in line to play James Bond, according to ComingSoon.net.

U.K. tabloidThe Daily Star had reported that conversations between director Anton Fuqua and Barbara Broccoli, who has long been the producer of theJames Bond films, had taken place. Elba was reportedly considered a possible new Bond, as the casting would diversify the iconic role.

Elba added fuel to the fire with a tweet that read "My name's Elba, Idris Elba" on Sunday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Fuqua has said that there was no such conversation between him and Broccoli.

Many fans have spoken up about their desire for Elba to play the role. However, he has not been contacted to play the role, according to various sources.

"It would be such an honor," Elba said in a 2014 interview with CNN about the possibility of playing James Bond. "I mean, what do we have to do here? We have to wear beautiful suits, drive nice cars, chase bad guys, and date beautiful women? I dunno, sounds good to me."

Daniel Craig, who has played James Bond four times before, will play the role for a fifth and final time in an as-yet untitled 25th Bond movie set to premiere in November 2019.
