Kanye West has apologized for comments he made about slavery, according to Cosmopolitan.

He remarked in an interview with TMZ that he believed slavery was a choice, given how long it existed.
"I don't know if I properly apologized for how the slavery comment made people feel," he said on a WGCI Chicago radio show."I'm sorry for the one-two effect of theMAGA hatinto the slave comment, and I'm sorry for people that felt let down by that moment."

West said that the TMZ interview was an example of what it's like to live with bipolar disorder, which he was diagnosed with after being hospitalized in 2016. He thanked the hosts of the radio show for allowing him to speak about his mental health issues as well.

In tearful comments, he said that the old Kanye would be replaced by a newer, better person in the weeks to come.

Reactions to West's comments about slavery were initially harsh and fast, with his wife Kim Kardashian particularly upset by them.

"Did I cry about it? Did I fight about it? Yeah," she said. "That's not stuff we put on social media. I'm not going to start tweeting what my thoughts are, but we have those moments. We have different views sometimes, but that's my husband, you know?"

West rapped about the incident on his latest album, saying that he told Kardashian she could leave him over the comments if she wanted
