Mariah Carey will return to 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' as headliner

After facing ridicule and criticism for her faulty performance last year, the 'All I Want for Christmas' singer will be back to headline on the Times Square NYE stage.

It's "take 2" for Mariah Carey, as it's been announced that the singer will be returning to the Times Square stage for a New Year's Eve performance comeback.

Dick Clark Productions and Carey announced jointly on Friday that she will be the headliner for ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Even with Ryan Seacrest" for a second year in a row.

Instead of rocking the crowd last year, Carey's performance was met with disaster and ridicule, going viral on social media after she failed to sing a majority of her set. The entertainer insisted to her audience that she couldn't hear through her earpiece, among other technical glitches.

This led to a public spat between Carey's team an Dick Clark Productions, with Carey's manager blaming the technical glitches and production issues as problems the producers knowingly refused to fix. Dick Clark Productions responded that the accusations were "outrageous and frankly absurd."

At the time Carey said she was "mortified" and decided to take a break from social media. But it looks as if the dramatic aftermath of her performance is in the past. Carey will be joining Britney Spears, Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes, and Kelly Clarkson to help ring in the New Year.

"We can all agree that last year didn't go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration on 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2018.' See you in Times Square!," Carey and Dick Clark Productions said in a joint statement.

"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" airs on ABC at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31.
