Michelle Williams, who rose to fame as a member of Destiny's Child, checked herself into a mental health facility to help deal with her depression.

The facility is located just outside of Los Angeles, and Williams has been there for several days already.
"For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it's time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing," she tweeted on Tuesday evening. "Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need."

Williams has spoken openly about her struggles with mental health before, saying on an episode ofThe Talk that she has had suicidal thoughts in the past. When she first began having mental health concerns at the age of around 13, Williams said she believed she was simply going through growing pains and that she did not fully understand what she was experiencing until she was in her 30s.

"I didn't know what to call it," she said.

Williams received a number of supportive messages from fellow celebrities and friends, including Tina Knowles Lawson and Missy Elliot.

"I'm soo proud of you!" Lawson wrote. "You have given unselfishly of your time and support to so many and I know that you will be the best example of self care which we all need.
