Universal Pictures has removedCowboy Ninja Viking, starring Chris Pratt, from its release schedule,Varietyreported. The film was supposed to be released on June 28, 2019, and a new release date has not been announced.

The film is still in active development, though actual production -- which was meant to begin in one month -- has been delayed. Pratt, Priyanka Chopra, and director Michelle MacLaren are all still involved in the movie, which will mark MacLaren's first feature-length project.
Universal said that the film was postponed to accommodate its production schedule, with several unnamed sources saying that the film was delayed in order to avoid rushing it for an on-time release.

According to Collider, Universal ended discussions with potential supporting cast members while the film was in pre-production, hinting at its delay. Sources say that the studio hopes the film will be part of a franchise, and it has therefore taken precautions to ensure that the film does well.

Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans)and Ryan Engle (Rampage) wrote the most recent draft of the script, while one earlier draft was written byThe Hangover II's Craig Mazin and the original was written byDeadpoolwriters Paul Wernick and Everett David Reese.
